Understanding Various Wooden Shutter Parts

Time and elements are a common reason from broken down shutters, and years of exposure will require you to repair them yourself or hire someone to do a professional job. It is imperative that you know the different parts, more so, if you are going to do the repair as a DIY job. Your home’s interior is your image and you cannot afford to ignore it.

Nylon shutter pins

You find these pins at the base of each louver, and they help the louvers stay together allowing rotary motion with the panel. For example, if there is a broken pin in the wooden shutter, you will need a nylon pin to hold it on replacement.

Shutter catches

Some wooden Shutter Spares help the panels to remain closed when you want them to close. They work with a clasp system that connects the two ends. You install them by simply attaching the clasp to the window and securing the bottom to the shutter panel. When the clasp and bottom connect, this creates a successful shutter catch.

Knobs

You use these knobs for decor only. However, they do function as a working knob if you pull the panels using them. They come in a variety of colors and styles and are a great tool to enhance the shutters’ look. When you attach a lever to other panels’ knobs, you make a closing panel shutter.

Tilt rods

These are located in the focal point of the shutter panel, and their purpose is to open and close the louvers. When you push the tilt rod up, the louvers close upwards, and when you pull down, they close downwards. When the rod breaks, avoid replacing the rod alone, but consider buying the kit.

Hinges

These are the wooden shutter parts, which make the panels more functional, and you find them on the outside of the wooden panels. They come in various colors and metals. People using wooden panels depend on them for protection from weather and are an important attachment to the house’s exterior. When they fall off, it becomes impossible to protect the doors and windows in storms.

Tension washers

These hold the louvers onto the wooden panel, and keep them tight and stable. Their weight is what makes them remain down, and on breaking, the panels lose tension. You need to keep a few at home because when they break the panels cannot function.
